As part of the celebrations of National Environment’s Day 2023:
The Minister of Environment attended the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Bioenergy Association for Sustainable Development and the National Bank of Kuwait-Egypt to support the installation of a central biogas plant targeting 150 beneficiaries in Assiut governorate.
Dr. Yasmine Fouad: “Expanding the construction of biogas units in rural Egypt benefits all parties in the rural system by working on recycling waste and providing alternative energy and fertilizer , The project is an inspirational model that connects the Government, the people and the banking sector to produce bioenergy , The Memorandum of Understanding is a good example of greenhouse gases emissions, waste management and a model for the circular bioeconomy , Insisting on the interest of Egypt in all its organizations and members involving the private sector, the banking sector, civil society organizations, women and youth in this initiative.
Dr. Yasmine Fouad signed a memorandum of understanding between Bioenergy Association for Sustainable Development and the National Bank of Kuwait – Egypt, to support the installation of a central biogas plant targeting 150 beneficiaries in the governorate of Assiut , In the presence of Dr. Ali Abu-Senna, Head of Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, Dr. Tariq Al-Arabi, Head of the Waste Management Regulatory Authority, and Dr. Talat Abd-Elkawy, General secertary of NGOs and the General secretary of Bioenergy Association for Sustainable Development and

Mr. Yasser Al-Tayeb, Vice-Chairman, Executive Chairman and Managing Director of the National Bank of Kuwait and Deputy Dr. Nashwa Raif, member of the energy and environment committee at the house of representatives .

The Memorandum was signed by Dr. Talat Abd-Elkawy, General Secretary of NGOs and General Secretary of Bioenergy Association for Sustainable Development, and Professor Karim Kamal, Head of Supporting Jobs Sector of the National Bank of Kuwait.
During the signing of the memorandum of understanding, the Minister of Environment, Dr. Yasmine Fouad, thanked the National Bank of Kuwait for its support for the third consecutive year in the same area, namely the expansion of the installation of Biogas units at the level of the Republic’s governorates.
During the signing of the memorandum, the Minister of Environment sent several important messages, including regarding the initiatives launched by the Egyptian presidency during the climate conference COP27 namely the equitable transition of energy. and tailings initiative 50 over 2050 in Africa and the recycling of 50% of the continent’s tailings by 2050.
Under the Protocol, the Bank of Kuwait provides a grant of 2500000 (2 million 500,000 Egyptian pounds) To install a centralized biogas plant in Assiut governorate to target 150 beneficiaries to provide a source of energy and produce organic fertilizer and to provide applied training in order to master the efficient and effective operation as well as support the industrial bioeconomy Through safe waste disposal, Bioenergy for Sustainable Development must select implementing companies and fully supervise implementation at all stages and issuing all permits and approvals for the project and participating with Assiut Governorate in the selection of beneficiaries.

At the level of cooperation between the Government and Egyptian society, this conference saw a significant difference from its predecessors by coming up with realistic decisions away from the recommendations Egypt also took the lead in making operational plans and programs to translate them into actual decisions.

Talat Abdel-kawy added that what we are witnessing today is a model that we are proud of and proud of in our historical experience of how to dispose of agricultural and animal residues and the environmental pollution they cause as a result of those residues and to transform those residues with a new thought and vision from disposal to benefit from that experience from lost opportunities to existing opportunities by transforming those residues and helping to solve the problem facing the entire world and providing jobs and empowering Egyptian women economically and socially.

Abdelkawi said that the Association, under the chairmanship of His Excellency the Minister, is a pioneering idea that can be spread among Egypt to benefit from this civilized project. He pointed out that the initiative of the President of the Republic is also an unprecedented model worldwide, encompassing the development of the Egyptian countryside in all aspects of its life from facilities, services and others.

For his part, MR. Yasser Al-Tayeb insisted that the adoption of Biogas projects on the basis of public-private partnerships and grass-roots efforts by the owners of these projects in villages is an important factor for the sustainability and future expansion of these projects on a larger and more widespread scale.

Engineer Wael Radwan, Executive Director of Bioenergy Association for Sustainable Development, Insisted the role played by the Association in disseminating applications of bioenergy technologies in Egypt by removing all technical and financial challenges to the settlement of this technology, which contribute to increasing the competitive advantages of the Egyptian economy and yield a huge positive return on environmental, social and economic aspects
